First Chapter Bookshop began as a little girl dream many years ago right here in Seneca, SC. Never thinking a bookshop would be a tangible goal, Taylor began a professional career in higher education working with college students. After reevaluating priorities and passions, Taylor was led down a completely different path.
Planning quickly progressed after one particular sunny afternoon when Taylor and her husband, Brandon, took a stroll in downtown Seneca after Sunday lunch. They noticed a beautiful historic building that seemed as if it was built to be a bookshop and soon after First Chapter Bookshop came to fruition!
We enthusiastically opened our doors in March 2023 and exactly two weeks after our grand opening had a vehicle drive through the front facade of the building (drive thru bookstore, anyone?). We reopened in May 2023 after all repairs were made and have been sharing the love of books ever since then!
Our goal:
When asked, “what do you recommend?” We usually respond by asking, “what do you enjoy reading?”. It is not our goal to convince you to purchase our favorites or best sellers, but rather we want to find a book match for you. Sometimes we may not read the same things and that’s okay! Our staff will be thrilled to try to find a read that will match your preference or may even challenge you to branch a little out of your comfort zone.
